Isaac Motaung was not only a great friend but one of our greatest champions. His mark as a staunch supporter of Mr Mandela’s children’s legacy organisations can never be erased.
Isaac facilitated the relationship between the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (the Fund) and Pick ‘n Pay, and garnered support for its flagship project, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH).
Through his unwavering dedication, Pick ‘n Pay became a key donor during the development stages of, what has since become, the second dedicated children’s hospital in the region. This would further inspire a long-term relationship between the three organisations.
As a result, Pick ‘n Pay is recognised as one of the capital donors of the hospital project and one of the greatest supporters of the Fund’s Annual Children’s Celebration throughout the years.
Even after retirement and as advisor to the Pick ‘n Pay Foundation, Isaac, together with Chairperson of the Foundation, Ms Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, solidified his position in our hearts as a close friend and advocate.
Our organisations often reached out to Isaac to seek his support for events or for his input on the Fund’s programme areas of focus. Isaac always responded with valuable input and inspired other donors and stakeholders to support our cause.
This includes addressing a donor recognition dinner, hosted by Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust (the Trust) Mrs Graça Machel, during Mandela Month in July 2017.
His contribution, whilst working closely with the CEO of the Fund and the Trust, Ms Sibongile Mkhabela, to place the wellbeing of children at the centre of our society is deeply valued.
Isaac’s quiet enthusiasm, gentle and friendly demeanour will be sorely missed.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
